Winter Lantern Walk

The Winter Lantern Walk is an annual community procession held at the North Carolina Museum of Art to mark the arrival of the winter season. This event brings people together to walk along a scenic paved trail in the Museum Park with hand-crafted lanterns. Its primary purpose is to foster community connection through a peaceful shared outdoor experience.

Participants will follow a three-quarter-mile path illuminated by their own creative displays. The walk concludes at the Ellipse, providing a final gathering space for all attendees. Guests are encouraged to bring homemade, flame-free lanterns to contribute to the visual display. To support local organizations, attendees should bring donations such as coats, pet supplies, non-perishable food items, or toiletries.

This event is open to community members of all ages who enjoy outdoor activities and meaningful traditions. The atmosphere is quiet, welcoming, and celebratory of the winter transition. We invite you to participate in this unique walk, enjoy the crisp air, and support your neighbors by bringing a donation. Join us for this memorable evening and help create a vibrant light-filled display across the park.
