Science Detectives: Tropical Biodiversity is an immersive 60-minute educational program designed for homeschool and track-out students. This interactive class explores how museum scientists preserve natural history specimens and utilize collections to study our global environment. Students will gain insights into the scientific process through hands-on learning experiences.

Participants will investigate the location and significance of tropical regions while identifying North Carolina’s unique connections to these ecosystems. The session examines diverse tropical habitats and the importance of biodiversity within these environments. A highlight of the experience includes a guided visit to the Living Conservatory, which simulates a Central American tropical dry forest. During this walkthrough, students will observe live animals including butterflies, turtles, a tarantula, a snake, and a two-toed sloth in a controlled, educational setting.

This program is tailored for curious young learners who enjoy science and nature. The atmosphere is structured to foster deeper inquiry and engagement with museum exhibits. Please register your student in advance to secure a spot for this session. We look forward to exploring the wonders of the tropics with your family soon.
