Forging a Hammer

This hands-on workshop guides participants through the process of creating a custom steel hammer from start to finish. You will gain practical experience in metalworking by crafting a durable, functional tool that you can take home and use immediately.

The class focuses on essential blacksmithing techniques. Using one-inch square 4140 steel, you will learn to punch and shape the eye of the hammer and forge the head to your desired specifications. We will cover professional heat treatment methods to ensure durability and finish the project by attaching a custom wooden handle. Every step is designed to build your confidence and technical skill in the forge.

This course is perfect for makers who have already completed the Forging Intro class. While Forging II is recommended, it is not required for enrollment. Expect a focused and productive atmosphere where you can transform raw steel into a professional-grade tool. Space is limited, so please register early to secure your spot at the anvil. Join us to refine your metalworking craft and walk away with a hammer built by your own hands.
