This class teaches the fundamental techniques required to create pattern welded steel, widely known as Damascus. You will learn to prepare alternating layers of 1084 and 15N20 steel to construct an eight layer billet. The goal is to gain hands on experience in forging and manipulation of high carbon materials.

Participants will stack, prepare, and weld metal using a high temperature gas forge. You will utilize hand forging methods to bond the layers and may twist the material to develop distinct patterns. By the end of the session, you will possess a custom Damascus billet suitable for future projects like knives, bracelets, or bottle openers.

This course is designed for those who have already completed the introductory forging class. Because you will be shaping one inch thick steel manually, you must be physically prepared for rigorous hammer work. Basic MIG welding skills are recommended to assist in the preparation process. Sign up today to build your skills in advanced blacksmithing and master the art of pattern welding through dedicated practice and expert instruction.
