Exhibit Opening: The Doctor is in

We invite you to join the official opening of our new permanent exhibit, The Doctor is in. This exhibition examines the historical experiences of Black physicians practicing in the American South during the twentieth century. It serves as an educational space dedicated to documenting their professional struggles, achievements, and community impact. The centerpiece of the exhibit features a curated selection of artifacts from the renowned Pope Collection. Visitors will view original medical tools, personal correspondence, and rare documents that offer a firsthand look at the daily lives of these medical professionals. These primary sources provide a tangible connection to the past and highlight the resilience required to serve patients in a segregated society. This exhibit is designed for history enthusiasts, students, and anyone interested in the intersection of medicine and social progress. The atmosphere is formal, contemplative, and engaging. We encourage you to attend this opening event to be among the first to explore these vital historical narratives. Admission is open to the public, and we recommend arriving early to ensure you have sufficient time to appreciate the full scope of the collection.
