Privacy Policy

Raleigh Parent (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the Raleigh Parent mobile application and website (the “Services”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information about you when you use our Services.

1. Data We Collect

We collect information that you provide directly to us and information that is collected automatically through your use of the app.

1.1 Information from All Users

  • Account Data: Name, email address, and password when you register.
  • Preferences: Events you "favorite," categories you follow (e.g., "Indoor Play"), and search history.
  • Location Data: With your precise consent, we collect GPS data to show events near you. You can disable this in device settings at any time.
  • Usage Data: We automatically collect your IP address, device ID, and real-time interaction data (clicks and page visits).

1.2 Information from Organizers & Businesses

If you submit an event or business listing to our businesses, categories, or tags tables, we collect:

  • Entity Details: Business name, address, website, and category tags.
  • Contact Info: Professional contact details for account management and verification.
  • Verification Data: We may collect phone numbers or social links to prevent fraudulent listings.

2. How We Use Your Personal Data

We use your data in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy and applicable laws. Specifically, we use it for:

2.1 Providing and Improving Services

If you provide data for a specific reason, we use it for that purpose. For example, if you email us for support, we use your email to respond. We also use data to analyze how users interact with our categories and business listings to improve our app's functionality and content.

2.2 Personalization & Recommendations

We use your search history, "favorited" events, and interaction data to make inferences about the types of activities you enjoy. This allows us to customize your feed and recommend events (e.g., if you frequently search for "Summer Camps," we will prioritize those in your discovery view).

2.3 Organizer Insights & Analytics

We provide business owners (Organizers) with tools to see how their listings are performing. While we share statistics with them (e.g., "100 people viewed your event today"), this is done on an aggregated and anonymized basis. We do not share your individual contact details with Organizers unless you explicitly opt-in or contact them directly.

2.4 Safety, Security, and Fraud Prevention

Internal Business Purposes:

  • To protect against, identify, and address wrongdoing or fraudulent activity.
  • To enforce our Terms of Service and manage your account.
  • To verify the identity of Organizers submitting new business listings to the platform.

2.5 Aggregate Research

We conduct research on our user demographics and behavior based on the data collected. Once this data is in an aggregated form (e.g., "60% of our users are interested in outdoor parks"), it becomes Non-Personal Data, and we may use it for marketing or business development purposes.

3. How We Disclose and Transfer Your Personal Data

Raleigh Parent is not in the business of selling your Personal Data. We consider this information a vital part of our relationship with you and will not sell your data to third-party advertisers. We only share your data in the following limited circumstances:

3.1 Business Transfers

As we develop our business, we might sell or buy assets. In the event of a corporate sale, merger, reorganization, or similar event, your Personal Data may be part of the transferred assets. You acknowledge that any successor to Raleigh Parent will continue to have the right to use your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

3.2 Agents, Consultants, and Service Providers

We share data with service providers who perform functions on our behalf. These include:

  • Hosting & Infrastructure: Companies that provide our database and server hosting.
  • Analytics Providers: Tools that help us understand app usage (e.g., Google Analytics or Firebase).
  • Customer Support: Email service providers used to respond to your inquiries.

3.3 Organizers and Businesses

When you interact with a business listing or event, we may share aggregated, non-identifiable information with that Organizer (e.g., "50 parents viewed your summer camp listing this week"). We do not share your contact information with Organizers unless you explicitly choose to contact them through the Services or opt-in to a specific offer.

3.4 Social Media and Third-Party Links

Our Services contain links to third-party websites (like Instagram or Facebook). If you click a link to a business's social media page, that third party may receive information about your visit. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties; please review their individual policies.

3.5 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your data if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to (a) comply with a legal obligation, (b) protect and defend our rights or property, (c) prevent wrongdoing, or (d) protect the personal safety of users or the public.

4. Children’s Privacy (COPPA)

Raleigh Parent is an app for parents and caregivers. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us immediately for permanent deletion.

5. Account Closure & Data Deletion

You have the right to close your account and delete your personal information at any time.

In-App: Go to 'Settings' > 'Edit' > 'Close Account'.
Online: Submit a request through our Account Deletion Request Page.

Note: Upon request, we will delete your credentials and saved preferences within 30 days. Some anonymized data may be retained for analytical purposes.

6. Contact Us

7. Data Storage and Security

The security of your Personal Data is important to us. We use standard physical, technical, and administrative measures to protect the information we collect.

7.1 Storage Location

Personal Data may be stored by us or by third-party service providers (such as hosting companies and database providers) in the United States or other countries. By using the Services, you consent to this storage and transfer.

7.2 Security Measures

We take reasonable steps to protect your Personal Data from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access. However, no internet transmission or electronic storage system is ever fully secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

7.3 User Responsibility

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account password and for any activity that occurs under your account. We encourage you to use a unique, strong password and to notify us immediately if you suspect any unauthorized access to your account.

8. Data Retention

We retain your Personal Data for as long as you have an active account with Raleigh Parent.

8.1 After Account Closure

If you choose to delete your account, we will remove your personal identifiers from our active databases. However, we may retain certain data as permitted or required by law for the following reasons:

  • Backups & Archiving: Your data may persist in our encrypted backup files for a limited period until those backups are rotated or deleted.
  • Legal & Compliance: To comply with tax laws, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
  • Aggregated Data: We may keep anonymized, aggregated data (which no longer identifies you) indefinitely to analyze long-term trends in the Raleigh event market.

8.2 Business Listings

For Organizers, we retain business listing information (such as the business name and category) as long as it remains relevant to our discovery platform, unless the Organizer requests removal of the business profile.

9. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Raleigh Parent and our third-party partners use cookies, pixel tags, and mobile identifiers to provide, protect, and improve our Services.

9.1 Types of Technologies Used

  • Cookies & Web Storage: Small data files stored on your browser to remember your login session and preferences (e.g., your preferred Raleigh neighborhood).
  • Mobile Device Identifiers: In our mobile app, we use unique IDs provided by your device (such as the IDFA on iOS or Advertising ID on Android) to understand app performance and usage.
  • Pixel Tags & SDKs: We may use code snippets from partners (like Google Analytics or Firebase) to understand how you interact with specific event listings or business categories.

9.2 Your Choices

Most browsers and mobile devices allow you to manage or disable these technologies.

  • On the Web: You can adjust your browser settings to refuse cookies. However, some features of Raleigh Parent may not function properly without them.
  • In the App: You can manage tracking permissions through your device’s system settings (e.g., "Allow App to Track" on iOS).

10. Your Choices

You have several choices regarding how we handle your Personal Data:

10.1 Limit Data Provided

You can browse Raleigh Parent without creating an account. In this case, we only collect "Automatic Technical Data" (like your IP address). However, to save events, follow categories, or list a business, you must provide certain Personal Data.

10.2 Opting Out of Communications

  • Marketing Emails: You can opt out of promotional emails by clicking the "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom of any email we send. It may take up to 48 hours to process this request.
  • Transactional Emails: Even if you opt out of marketing, we will still send you "Transactional" emails (such as password resets, account verification, or updates to our Terms) as long as you have an active account.
  • Push Notifications: You can manage app notifications through your mobile device settings.

10.3 Targeted Advertising & Do Not Track

Do Not Track: We currently do not respond to "Do Not Track" (DNT) browser signals.

Mobile Tracking: On iOS and Android, you can opt out of interest-based advertising by visiting your device’s privacy settings and selecting "Limit Ad Tracking" or "Ask App Not to Track."

10.4 Access and Accuracy

You can review and edit your account information at any time by logging into the Raleigh Parent app and visiting your Profile settings.

11. Exclusions

11.1 Data Provided to Others

This Privacy Policy does not apply to any Personal Data that you provide to another user, business, or visitor through the Services. This includes information you post to public areas of the app (such as reviews or comments) or data you provide directly to an Organizer via their external registration pages.

11.2 Third-Party Links

The Services contain links to other websites not operated or controlled by Raleigh Parent (the “Third-Party Sites”). This Privacy Policy applies only to Raleigh Parent. We do not endorse or review the privacy policies of third-party sites. We strongly suggest contacting those sites directly for information on their specific privacy practices.

12. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)

Raleigh Parent provides a service intended for parents, guardians, and adults. We do not knowingly collect Personal Data from children under the age of thirteen (13).

Notice to Minors:

If you are under the age of 13, please do not submit any Personal Data through the Services. We encourage parents and legal guardians to monitor their children's internet usage and to help enforce our Privacy Policy by instructing children never to provide Personal Data without permission.

Reporting a Violation: If you have reason to believe that a child under the age of 13 has provided Personal Data to Raleigh Parent, please contact us at [email protected]. We will act immediately to delete that information from our active databases and servers.

13. International Data Transfers

Raleigh Parent is based in the United States and is intended for use by residents of the United States.

13.1 Server Location

If you are visiting our Services from outside the United States, please be aware that you are sending information (including Personal Data) to the United States where our servers are located.

13.2 Consent to Transfer

By using our Services, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States and to other countries where our service providers may be located. These countries may have data protection laws that are different from (and potentially less protective than) those in your country of residence. However, our collection, storage, and use of your Personal Data will at all times continue to be governed by this Privacy Policy.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

Our business and the Services may change from time to time. As a result, we may need to make changes to this Privacy Policy.

14.1 Right to Modify

We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to update or modify this Privacy Policy at any time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date at the top.

14.2 Notice of Changes

In certain circumstances, we may (but are not obligated to) provide you with additional notice of material changes, such as via email or an in-app notification. Modifications will be effective immediately upon posting or on the date stated in the notice.

14.3 Continued Use

Please review this policy periodically, especially before you provide any new Personal Data. Your continued use of the Services after any changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the new Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the changes, you should stop using the Services and delete your account.

15. Dispute Resolution & Complaints

If you have a complaint or concern about Raleigh Parent’s privacy practices, we want to address it as quickly as possible.

15.1 Initial Resolution

In the event of any dispute or complaint regarding your Personal Data, you agree to first contact us at [email protected]. We will take reasonable steps to work with you to resolve your concern.

15.2 Formal Disputes

If a dispute cannot be resolved through our initial support process, any formal legal proceedings related to this Privacy Policy will be governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina and shall be resolved in accordance with the dispute resolution procedures (including binding arbitration) set forth in our Terms of Service.
