It's a pretty nice pool. Eight lanes, 25 yards. 3.5 feet at the shallow end and 9ish at the deep end. There's a nice ramp which is great for toddlers or anyone who has trouble getting in and out. The water is warm-ish (83 or 84) so I wouldn't recommend it for any serious long-distance, short-rest-interval swimming unless you like to overheat. For relaxing swims or longer interval stuff it's great. It's only chilly if you're used to something around 90 degrees like Goldfish - but my son had a blast once he got over it.
The showers are nice and hot and they and the locker room are reasonably clean and well-maintained. There is no suit dryer which apparently freaks some people out. The water-bottle-filling station is right in the lobby next to the vending machine - I didn't notice it until my ninth visit.
Bonus, it hasn't been too busy any time I've been there. Please don't come and take up all the lane space ;)
My kid and her friend loved it ty so much
I was there August 19 with my granddaughters, and their mother, they all loved the sprinklers including me.
Had a great first-time experience at the Edison Johnson Aquatics center today. I purchased a Durham Play More Card (free) and a 10-swim punch pass online from the parks & rec site. All the resources online recommended reserving a lane for lap swim, which I did. There weren't very many time slots available on the site but I found one for 3pm. I stopped by the day before my reservation to make sure I knew what to bring to check in and the person working the desk printed out a physical Play More card for me and confirmed that I had 10 swims loaded onto my account. She treated me very kindly. When I came in today, I let the person at check in know I had a reservation (also very warm and friendly), and a gentleman from the office called me over and let me know that reservations were no longer required (or even recommended, really), and that I could drop in to swim whenever was convenient. He pointed out the printed schedule and let me know about when the swim teams practice, etc. The locker room is your typical 70s/80s no-frills municipal facility but it was clean and had private changing areas, which I appreciate. The pool water was very warm and I was able to have a lane to myself. The lifeguards seemed very attentive - it was all adults in the pool but I could tell they take their job seriously. The pool seemed very clean. The acoustics are loud (as a lot of indoor lap pools are) with the high ceilings and ventilation running. I brought my own buoy and gloves, but they have buoys and kickboards available for lap swimmers. Looking forward to coming back soon at an earlier time so I don't have to rush back to work. One suggestion - if anybody reads these - it would be great to have a water extractor for wet swim suits, but I know they need special electrical hookups that might not work.
This place is awesome. Locals pay $4 kids under 18 are FREE!!! It is hot! Wanna swim? They got you covered!! Bonus free splash pad outside!!! Also, if you want the exercise, lap swimming is seldom crowded. Getting 1 hour+ of your own lane isn't difficult.
