This facility is outdated and overpriced. Every piece of workout equipment is a decade old and many of the amenities are often out of order. They doubled the rates in early 2024 which led to many people going to other gyms that provide a better value. The only lucrative feature of this gym is the basketball courts that are available 60% of the time. Disappointed in the price hike. In regret signing a petition to keep that place instead of the apartments that developers wanted. This place is pretty much a senior center . $25 day pass is kind of extreme for what this business is supposed to represent. I was a member at the Y for over 5 years and hate they priced out their younger clientele.
My partner and I came here while looking for an apartment in Durham. The staff were so friendly, especially Kindra, who gave us a tour of the facility. Equipment is nice and other gym patrons had good etiquette.
Friendly staff! The gym equipment works, but very dated. Sauna seemingly always out of order. Most disappointed about the sauna as that is all they offer that I’m interested in that sets them apart from other gyms like Planet Fitness. I think I’ll be switching since the amenities I pay for are not in order.
Great place to work out, great ans friendly staff, instructor and visitors. Enjoy the variety of classes. Zumba, aqua fitness, line dance, yoga thrieve!!!!
Clean place and pool. Pls would love a warmer pool.
For me, this Y is a happy place. It is so convenient and it has all I need. I love the pool and I also like to workout in the gym upstairs. Everyone that works there, like Tony, is exceptionally nice.
It can get crowded after work and can be tough to find the dumbbells you need. It's never a problem to get a cardio machine and the locker rooms are never too crowded. If the classroom studio is open, there are lots more dumbbells in the lighter range in there. I do wish they would have another dumbbell rack of the commonly used lighter weights (10, 15, 20lbs) in the main area.
I gave four stars versus five to be clear that it is nothing fancy because I know some people will be looking for somewhere more sleek and shiny and new. I actually like that it feels more like a community center, which is sort of the idea of the Y, than some trendy gym. I grew up going to Ys and even worked at one for two years. I do hope they fix the pool hot water heater, though! Otherwise, it is way too cold for swimming in the coming winter months 🥶
