This hotel is well-located and affordable. The museum is beautiful and the rooms are very nice. They gave us a free upgrade and special gift for a special occasion, which we appreciated. The staff is friendly.

Be careful booking the spa. We booked several weeks in advance (maybe 2 months?) but received no confirmation until 8 days before, long after I’d called to confirm and to ask for a confirmation email. The email instructs you to pay in advance by uploading a picture of your credit card to a secure form. I preferred not to, so went in person to pay, only to learn my reservation was given away due to non payment.
Room service took 45 minutes and was missing part of an item.

This is my new favorite place to stay in downtown Durham. It's in a great location for me when I visit our Durham office. I really like the vibe and all of the artwork in lobby. My room was very spacious and well appointed. That staff were quite friendly and helpful.
I didn't dine at the restaurant, but I did sit at the bar one evening and enjoyed that a great deal.

I’ve stayed here several times with my husband and we love it! It’s such a cool old building and the staff are so friendly! If you can talk to Stan! He’s such a great guy and knows a lot of the history of the building. Also check out the art exhibits and go to the Counting House for dinner one night. Such a special place!

This is not a traditional chain hotel, so just know that going in. However, that's not a bad thing! The art gallery is really cool and the old bank vault in the basement is super interesting. The staff were really wonderful and the location unbeatable. Only things that weren't ideal: room didn't have blackout curtains, so it was a rough adjustment from several time zones behind, and the A/C didn't seem to be able to keep up with the humidity.

The museum was great, the rooms are a good size, but it would have been nice to have a microwave. A rooftop patio would have been nice, since there is no outdoor space. Oh yeah, the little sculpture is made of real chocolate :-)
