Unframed Voices: Art. Theater. No Boundaries.

Unframed Voices is an immersive theatrical event hosted at the North Carolina Museum of Art where live performance meets visual art. Attendees journey through the museum galleries to experience four original ten-minute plays directly inspired by specific paintings, sculptures, and installations on display.

Four local North Carolina theater companies and playwrights have collaborated to write and produce these stories exclusively for the museum space. Guests move between galleries to witness these site-specific performances. The experience bridges the gap between static art and dynamic narrative, transforming the museum into an active stage. Performances begin shortly after arrival, creating a seamless flow from one theatrical piece to the next throughout the gallery collection.

This event is designed for art enthusiasts, theater lovers, and anyone seeking a unique cultural outing. The atmosphere is vibrant and intellectual, offering a fresh way to engage with the museum permanent collection. Whether you are a frequent museum visitor or new to live theater, this program provides a rare opportunity to see familiar artworks through an entirely new lens. Join us for this distinct fusion of art and storytelling by securing your tickets early.
