Stagville's Untold Stories Women of the Plantation
Uncover the untold stories of resilience and resistance this Women's History Month. "Her Heart is Slowly Breaking:" a Women's History Tour of Stagville, offers a poignant journey into the lives of enslaved women who shaped the history of one of North Carolina's largest plantations.
Join us every Saturday in March 2026 at 11:00 AM for a guided tour of the Bennehan House and grounds, where we'll illuminate the experiences of Phoebe Bennehan, Anna Bell, Emma Turner Henderson, and countless others. Through meticulous research, their personal narratives reveal the strength, love, and labor that defined their existence in the face of unimaginable adversity.
Please be aware that this tour is intended for adult visitors, as it includes content about violence, sexual violence, and family separation. The tour lasts approximately one hour and involves walking and standing, both indoors and outdoors, including uneven surfaces. Tickets are $10 per person plus tax, payable by card at check-in.
