Return of the Wild is a lecture event exploring the state of North American wildlife 220 years after the Lewis and Clark expedition. Dr. Roland Kays presents findings from a recent cross-country mission that retraced the famous route to document how species distribution has changed over time.

Dr. Kays and his team used camera traps to track animals from Pittsburgh to the Pacific while consulting with tribal colleges, ranchers, and local biologists. Attendees will discover which historical animal populations remain, which have vanished, and the conservation efforts that protected those still thriving today. The presentation highlights the critical roles of national parks, refuges, and state agencies in preserving regional biodiversity.

This event is designed for nature enthusiasts, students, and anyone interested in wildlife science and environmental history. The presentation offers a clear, evidence-based look at the past and future of our ecosystem. Join us to learn about the resilience of American wildlife and the ongoing efforts required to maintain a balanced landscape. We invite you to attend this engaging look at one of the most unique wildlife surveys in modern history.
