Prairie Ridge Ecostation's Biodiversity of the Night
Experience the hidden wonders of the wilderness after dark during our Biodiversity of the Night event at Prairie Ridge Ecostation. This unique program, designed for participants aged ten and older, invites you to immerse yourself in the nocturnal symphony of our local environment as we celebrate the second day of the City Nature Challenge. We provide an engaging introduction to the iNaturalist platform, ensuring you have the tools to document your findings effectively throughout the evening.
Our guided exploration focuses on identifying frog and owl calls, observing elusive moth species, and discovering various other nighttime creatures that inhabit our site. Whether you are a budding naturalist or simply curious about the life that emerges once the sun sets, this event offers a fantastic opportunity to engage with nature in a hands-on way. We will keep our specialized moth lights active until 11:00pm for extended viewing, though you are welcome to depart whenever you wish. Please ensure you secure your spot by completing the mandatory online pre-registration before attending. We look forward to exploring the night with you soon.
