Parent Child Blacksmithing Experience
The Parent Child Blacksmithing Experience at Shopspace is an interactive workshop where adults and children ages 10 to 13 learn the fundamentals of metal forging together. This class provides a unique opportunity for families to collaborate on a creative project while discovering the mechanics of a professional forge environment.
Participants will learn to operate a propane forge, hammer, anvil, and tongs to transform hot metal into a functional wall hook or sculptural art piece. The session covers essential techniques including tapering, bending, cutting, twisting, and flattening. You will receive hands-on instruction regarding tool anatomy and safety protocols for manipulating heated iron in a controlled studio setting.
This course is designed specifically for children and their guardians to work as a team. We emphasize practical skill building in an engaging and accessible atmosphere. Please note that the parent must register and participate as a student alongside their child to ensure a safe and successful experience. Join us to develop new metalworking abilities and create a lasting project with your child.
