Native Plants for Birds
This event is a guided native plant walk designed to teach participants how to garden with native species to better support local bird populations and their food webs. It is a collaborative effort between the Library of North Carolina, the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, and the NC Wildlife Resources Commission.
The session begins with a brief introduction to the NC Birding Trail and the NC Bird Atlas, an ongoing five-year community science project. Following this, attendees will walk through the Native Plant Meadow and the museum's Native Plant Garden to observe specific species. This hands-on tour will cover roughly one half mile on paved sidewalks.
This event is perfect for gardeners, bird enthusiasts, and anyone interested in local ecology. The atmosphere is educational and interactive, offering a great chance to learn from state experts while enjoying the outdoors. Please note that the experience takes place primarily outside. For more information on native gardening, explore the GHL Native Plant Seed Library resources at slnc.info/seeds and slnc.info/seedlibraryguide. We look forward to seeing you there for a productive morning of learning and observation.
