Mill Open House
Experience history in motion at the Historic Yates Mill County Park in Raleigh. As the home of the last operable water-powered gristmill in Wake County, this unique site offers a captivating look at a technological marvel that has been functioning for over two hundred years. Visitors are invited to step inside the historic structure to observe the inner workings of the massive millstones and learn about the grinding process from knowledgeable historic interpreters. Whether you are interested in local history, engineering, or simply exploring the scenic 174-acre wildlife refuge, this program provides a rare opportunity to engage with the past in a beautiful outdoor setting.
Beyond the mill itself, the park offers a wealth of recreational opportunities including walking trails, gardens, and picnic areas. Admission to the facility is entirely free, making it an ideal destination for families and history enthusiasts alike.
