K-5th Adventures: Flying with Bessie Coleman
Join the Wake County Public Library for an exciting educational journey as we celebrate the legacy of Bessie Coleman, the first African American female pilot. This interactive event is designed for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, offering a perfect blend of history and hands-on learning. Through our K-5th Adventures series, participants will engage in creative activities that highlight the achievements of inspiring women who changed the world.
During this session, students will explore the basics of flight and navigation using fun, hopscotch-style coding exercises to guide an airplane to the runway. We will also dive into the world of computer science by creating personalized keychains featuring binary letter codes. This workshop is a wonderful opportunity to foster a love for science, technology, and history in an inclusive environment.
The event is completely free to attend and held at the Southgate Community Library. Space is limited, so we encourage families to visit our website to review the full details and complete the registration process today. Come prepared to discover, explore, and learn as we honor trailblazers through discovery and play.
