Juneteenth Storytime at Historic Oak View County Park
Join us at Historic Oak View County Park for a meaningful and engaging Juneteenth Storytime designed specifically for children ages four through nine. This special program invites families to explore the profound significance of Juneteenth and the historical journey toward freedom from slavery in the United States. During these sessions, children will enjoy a live reading of the acclaimed book Opal Lee and What It Means to Be Free: The True Story of the Grandmother of Juneteenth by Alice Faye Duncan. After the reading, families will visit the park's historic 1870s tenant house to gain a deeper understanding of the experiences of newly emancipated people in our community. To commemorate their visit, participants will have the opportunity to create their own Juneteenth flag craft as a thoughtful take-home reminder of this important day. These educational events are entirely free, but registration is required for all participants to ensure a comfortable experience for everyone. We invite you to visit our website to secure your spot today and join us in honoring this essential chapter of our history through learning, reflection, and community celebration.
