To begin your journey, simply visit our Visitor Center where you will find clear directions to the starting point. From there, you can follow the trail at your own leisurely pace, making the walk an ideal activity for all ages. Most participants find that the experience takes between thirty minutes to an hour to complete, offering a peaceful yet stimulating way to enjoy the outdoors. Whether you are a regular visitor or a first time guest, this unique event provides a wonderful opportunity to experience our gardens from a new perspective. Every Monday and Wednesday until May 20, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the gymnasium at W.D. Hill Recreation Center transforms into a haven of joyful activity.


Offered by Durham Parks & Recreation, this program focuses on fostering socialization between parents and children, and providing opportunities for young ones to interact with their peers. Imagine your child's delight as they parachute, navigate tunnels, jump rope, bowl, and engage in classic games like tag.

We are thrilled to invite families to the Apex Nature Park Amphitheater for an inclusive and energetic egg hunt specifically designed for children with disabilities between the ages of 5 and 15. This special event ensures that every child has the opportunity to experience the joy and excitement of a traditional egg hunt in a comfortable and accommodating environment. The park will be filled with hidden treasures and surprises, including several elusive golden eggs that promise extra delight for our lucky finders.


Our goal is to create a welcoming space where children can socialize, explore nature, and enjoy the festivities at their own pace. We kindly request that parents or guardians remain present throughout the duration of the event to support their children during the hunt. Apex Nature Park's Flashlight Egg Hunt for Individuals with Disabilities

Join us for an unforgettable evening at Apex Nature Park as we host our special Flashlight Egg Hunt designed exclusively for children and teenagers with disabilities. This inclusive event creates a welcoming environment for youth ages 5 through 17 to enjoy the excitement of a night hunt. Participants will explore the park after dark while searching for hidden treasures, specifically candy filled eggs, in a safe and supportive setting. Our staff is dedicated to providing an enjoyable experience that celebrates accessibility and fun in the great outdoors.


The adventure begins promptly at 8:00 pm, so we kindly ask all participants and their families to arrive by 7:45 pm to get settled. Please ensure that each hunter comes dressed in appropriate attire for the current weather conditions and brings a reliable flashlight to aid in the search. We encourage the participation of personal assistants who are welcome to support our hunters throughout the evening. We look forward to seeing you there for this magical nocturnal event.
