77th Annual Watts-Hillandale Fourth of July Parade and Celebration
Join the Durham community for the 77th Annual Watts-Hillandale Fourth of July Parade and Celebration on Saturday, July 4th, 2026, at 10 a.m. Held at Oval Drive Park, this cherished tradition stands as the oldest Independence Day event in the city. What began in 1950 as a small neighborhood gathering has blossomed into a beloved local tradition that brings together families from all over the country to honor the spirit of patriotism.
Experience a vibrant display of American pride as volunteers decorate the park with hundreds of historic flags. The parade features marchers adorned in red, white, and blue, colorful floats, and festive decorations, followed by a communal pledge of allegiance and inspiring performances by the O.K. Chorale. The celebration concludes with the nostalgic tradition of sharing ice-cold Coca-Cola in glass bottles.
This event is open to everyone and serves as a wonderful way to connect with neighbors and celebrate history. We invite you to mark your calendars, wear your best patriotic attire, and be part of this energetic, family-friendly milestone. Come share in the dignity and joy of an American tradition that bridges generations.
