Every May, downtown Raleigh comes alive with color, creativity, and community energy during Artsplosure – The Raleigh Arts Festival, one of North Carolina’s longest-running and most beloved arts celebrations. Now in its fifth decade, the 2026 edition returns May 16–17 for a free, family-friendly weekend packed with art, music, and hands-on fun.

Since its beginnings in 1980 (with planning by the City of Raleigh Arts Commission starting in 1978), Artsplosure has grown from a grassroots event into a major Southeast destination, drawing an average of 85,000+ attendees each year. It’s the perfect spring outing for Raleigh families.

A Raleigh Tradition Since 1980

Artsplosure was created to make art accessible to everyone. What started as a local initiative has become a cornerstone of Raleigh’s cultural calendar. Beyond the main festival, the organization supports year-round events that strengthen the community’s creative spirit. In 2026, expect the same high-quality mix of visual art, performance, and family programming that has made it a spring favorite for generations.

  • Paintings, photography, and mixed media
  • Ceramics, glass, and fiber art
  • Jewelry, metalwork, wood, and more

Many artists are present at their booths, so kids can chat with creators and learn about their process. The festival also includes a juried competition with cash prizes, including a $1,250 Best in Show, making it an exciting event for artists and collectors alike.

Large-Scale & Interactive Art Installations

  • Heavy appetizers and two drink tickets
  • Access to a silent auction with over 50 unique items
  • Live painting during the event
  • A live art auction featuring works from renowned local artists

Cocktail attire is encouraged, setting the tone for a sophisticated evening. Guests will enjoy mingling with fellow arts supporters, getting a first look at some of the talent and creativity that will be on display during the weekend festival, and directly contributing to the continuation of this beloved Raleigh tradition.
